A Buddhist Podcast

March 11th, 2008

Since November of 2005, Jason and Karen Jarrett have shared their own personal Buddhist practice and experience through the medium of Podcasting.

They refer to it as “Practical Buddhism for living in the 21st Century, not beside a remote lake or mountainside but in the midst of daily life, with a job to do, a house to run and children to raise.” Indeed, much of what they present on A Buddhist Podcast has to do with the application of Buddhist principles to everyday life, with personal examples from their own experiences.

abuddhistpodcast_websafe.jpg

The Jarretts are devotees of Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism. The Daishonin was a 13th Century Japanese Priest who focused on the final teaching of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha). This teaching is called the Lotus Sutra, and it proclaims that all living beings have the potential to attain enlightenment.

Daily practice involves morning and evening recitation before an object of respect called The Gohonzon, as well as study of the Daishonin’s life and writings.

On the Podcast the Jarretts share Buddhist study points in a way that is easy for listeners to understand and apply to daily life. Jason is fond of saying that this Buddhism, if it is to be anything, must be practical.

If you wonder how relevant 13th Century Japanese Buddhism can be to a family living in 3rd Millineum Britain, pour a cup of tea and listen in to A Buddhist Podcast.

InsytWorks

March 3rd, 2008

PodFinder Episode 37 focuses on insight and introspection, taking all of our excerpts from programs in a PodShow Channel created by Robin Maiden. Robin and his wife, Suzanne, are the producers of InsytWorks, a Podcast which seeks to help listeners increase in self-awareness and heal from psychological wounds.

insyteworks.gif

Here’s how Robin and Suzanne describe themselves and the show.

We are Robin and Suzanne Maiden. Our marriage survived 18 years of ‘dragon slaying.’ We’re 40-something-ish and have experienced catastrophic losses. First, Suzanne’s brother was killed in an airline plane crash in October 1994. Second, in July 1995, Robin’s mother was murdered. Another dragon appeared in June of 2000. Suzanne was diagnosed with a rare cancer - hemangiopericytoma - a type of sarcoma. Today, we celebrate her sustained remission. As we continue to recover from our wounds we grow stronger psychologically and spiritually. Our journey led us to study the work of C.G. Jung and Depth Psychology. We believe in the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit.

Suzanne Maiden holds an M.A in Counseling, as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She attended Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, The Atlanta Jung Society, the Joseph Campbell Foundation, and The American Academy of Bereavement. Suzanne has published various articles on grief and has presented to churches, small groups, and a university. She completed a manuscript on sudden death grief. She wrote her thesis on self-injurious behaviors, also known as ‘cutting.’

Robin Maiden earned a B.S. in Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He also holds an M.S. in Information Systems. You can see more of what Robin Maiden has done his site www.robinmaiden.com. In the process of slaying his dragons, he has grown spiritually and continues to explore his inner world and the broader outer world.

We aspire to provide some concepts, tools, and insights that may help others heal. Through our podcasts and this website, we will share our knowledge and very personal experience. Through our own journey of woundedness, we humbly offer our insights in an effort to facilitate others heal from psychological wounds, increase self-awareness and process towards individuation.
